Online Vastu Shastra

The Indian concept of vastu shastra is supposed to be similar to the Asian concept of Feng Shui which probably also has some similar aspects as rightsumi. Interesting article about applying the traditions of vastu shastra to the online space.

Thirty-year-old Smita Narang is rapidly becoming one of India’s hottest Web designers. Her method: applying vastu shastra, the Indian counterpart of feng shui, to the online realm. The process entails mapping page attributes – HTML, colors, graphics – to elements like fire, water, and air. “Any disturbance of these established elements can cause an imbalance in the site that directly affects its business,” Narang says. Thanks to her book WebVastu and her own vastu-ed up homepage, clients are clamoring for her advice. But does it really make a difference? Narang reports that of the 500 sites she’s redesigned, three-quarters received an immediate boost in traffic. To judge for ourselves, Wired asked her to diagnose one of our spiritual Web haunts, Narang found the news-for-nerds site in desperate need of balance.

The principle laid down in Vastu Shastra were formulated keeping in view, the cosmic influence of the Sun, its light and heat, solar energy, directions of wind, the moon position, the earth’s magnetic field and the influence of cosmos on our planet. The system is an admixture of science of directions, astronomy and astrology.
